Seeds - Week 1

Our seeds have grown very fast after just one week! We think the carrots are growing the quickest!

Tin Whistle

The boys and girls in first class have been working really hard on their tin whistle. Have a look at our video, they are playing their favourite song "Twinkle Twinkle".

Book Club

The boys and girls in first class enjoyed their second week of book club. Today they gave the rest of the group a short review of their library books.

This week the children all selected a factual book to read in book club. They wrote their own book blurbs too.

Bug Doctor

Last week a Bug Doctor came to our school. He brought really interesting bugs and reptiles with him!

We learnt about spiders and tarantulas.

We got to feel a scorpion.

We got to hold a really big millipede.

We also saw a really big beetle too!

We all loved the snake. We got to hold and touch the snake. Some of us were brave enough to wrap the snake around our necks!

Watch a short video on beetles from the Bug Doctor!

Butterfly Window Decorations

We are making butterfly window decorations this week in Art.

First we cut up coloured tissue paper into squares.

Then we placed the tissue paper squares onto our butterfly template. We were creative with our designs and patterns!

Maths 3D Shapes

We are learning about 3D shapes. We can name and describe a sphere, cube, cuboid and a cylinder.

Today, Múinteoir Sinéad placed some 3D shapes in a bag. We had to describe the shapes based on how many faces and edges they have and if they can roll.

We had fun trying to guess the shape based on their description.

Caterpillars - Week 1

Our caterpillars are getting really big after just one week!

Sowing Seeds

Today we finished planting our seeds. We had a great selection of seeds to choose from.

Before we planted our seeds we had a look at the different types of seeds. The pumpkin seeds looked really different to the carrot seeds. They had different shapes, colours and sizes.

We were so careful when planting the seeds because they were very small! We made sure to give them water so they will grow.

We can't wait for them to start growing!

Perfect Parrots

We finished our rainforest parrots today. We love the bright colours on the parrots.

First, we carefully cut them out. Our cutting skills are really improving!

Next, we stuck on bright colourful feathers into the parrots.

We think they look great!

Hurling with Tom

Since the weather was so sunny and warm today, we went outside for our hurling session with Tom. We had a big match in the yard.

Stick Insects

We are so lucky to have new stick insets in our class. We got them from Michel, the Bug Doctor. We had lots of fun looking at them with the magnifying glasses.

Maciej, Robert and Nikita researched all about stick insects on the internet. They used a great website called "Britannica" to find out what the stick insects will eat and where they come from. They leant lots of interesting things!

We have placed our stick insects in a special insect garden. We love learning about insects!

New Caterpillars

We have five little caterpillars growing in our classroom!

We have named four of them so far, Mario, Joe, Emma and Rosa.

We will watch them grow into beautiful butterflies over the next few weeks in their butterfly garden.

Painting Parrots

One of the animals from the Amazon Rainforest we are learning about is the parrot. They are really colourful and live in the canopy layer of the rainforest.

We painted really colourful parrots today in art. Tomorrow, when they are dry we will cut them out and stick on bright feathers!
