Science Investigation - Magnets

The boys and girls were investigating how magnets worked. 

They tested lots of objects like paper clips, money, keys, pencils, rulers and cutlery. 

First, they predicted which items would be attracted to the magents. 

After they recorded their predictions they had a chance to investigate which items would be attracted to the magnetic wands. 

Once they had investigated all of the objects they recorded all of their results.

The objects they discovered were attracted to the magnetic wands were the keys, paper clips and money. 

Gymnastics - Forward Rolls

Today in P.E. we learnt how to do a forward roll. It was great fun! 

Van Gogh Pictures

At art club today the children created their own versions of Starry Starry Night. 

They used chalk pastels to create their pictures. 

Spring Flowers

Today we painted our favourite spring flowers. 

We used thumb prints and finger prints. 

Poetry "My Magic Umbrella"

Today we wrote poems about magical umbrellas. 

It was lots of fun! 

Tomorrow we will edit our poems. We will check our spellings and make sure we use capital letters and full stops.

Care of Henry

We have started reading our first class novel, Care of Henry. 

So far we have analysed the characters Mrs. Mariposa, Hugo and Hugo's Granny.  We have compared the characters and made lists to describe each character. 

We are learning a new reading strategy at the moment, "Creating Images". Múinteoir Sinéad read us a passage from the book, without showing us the pictures, and we imaged the scene she was describing to us. 

We created images for Hugo's house and Uncle Jack's apartment. 

Spring

Today we talked about signs of spring that we have seen. We have spotted some daffodils, snowdrops and buds growing. 

Some people have seen baby lambs too.

We have started our spring display.  

Tens and Units (addition)

Today we were learning how to add big numbers! 

We used the tens and units to help us. 

We had lots of fun!

Texaco Art Competition

We started working on our pictures for the Texaco Art Competition. 

We are drawing our favourite things! 

Pancake Tuesday

We made pancakes on Pancake Tuesday. 

We had great fun measuring the ingredients and mixing them together. 

After we made the pancakes, we wrote out the recipe as part of our procedural writing. 

Music with Katri

Today Katri let us play her drum. It was lots of fun. 

  We took it in turns to keep te beat of our favourite song "Owlet".

Plum Blossom Trees

Today we painted plum blossom trees. They are a symbol of the Chinese New Year. 

Show & Tell

Every Friday we have "Show and Tell". 

We are allowed to bring in our favourite toys, photographs, teddy bears or special things to show our friends. 

The rest of the class ask us questions about our special things. 

Some of our favourite questions are; 

- where did you get it?

- why do you like it?

- how does it work?

- who bought it for you?

- does it have a name? 

We ask who, what, where, when and why questions. 

Show and tell is a great way to help us answer questions and practise asking questions. 

Hurling with Tom

Every Thursday we have hurling training with our school coach, Tom. We have learnt lots of new skills. 

We love hurling!

Gymnastics - rolling

Today in gymnastics we learnt three new rolls- the tuck roll, the pencil roll and the log roll. 

We had lots of fun practising our rolling. 

Next week we will do the forward roll. We can't wait!
