Acrostic Poems

We wrote two acrostic poems about mini beasts.

Ladybirds

Lovely little bugs,
Amazing at flight.
Dangerous red back and
Yucky yellow liquid when in danger.
Black little spots,
I  ladybirds!
Ready to fly,
Dashing through the air.

Insects

I like insects.
Now how many could there be?
Some are black and some are green.
Eating leaves in the garden and
Crawling on the floor.
Trying to climb and trying to fly
Silly little bugs.

Seeds - Week 5

After caring for our seeds for the past month it was time for us to take them home to plant them in our gardens.

Goodbye Butterflies

Last week our butterflies emerged from their cocoons. We enjoyed watching them fly around our butterfly garden for the week.

We set them free on Friday in the school garden.

Vegetable Seeds - Week 4

Our fruit and vegetables are still growing. We will be take them home soon to plant in our own gardens.

Grandparents

We are learning about grandparents in history. We are learning about how their lives were different to our lives now. Maeve and Zoe brought in photographs of their grandparents to show us.

Butterflies

All five of our butterflies emerged out of their cocoons. We were so excited to see them flying around the butterfly garden. We gave them some orange slice to eat.

Fruit and Vegetable Day

Today we had our Fruit and Vegetable Day. Everyone brought in their favourite fruit and vegetable to share and taste.

First we laid out all of the fruit and veg on a table.

We then sorted into different categories. We put all the fruit together and all the veg together.

Then we decided to sort them by size and by colour.

We also used our mathematical skills to find out which fruit and veg were the most popular and which were the least popular.

Carrots and corn were the most popular vegetables and celery was the least popular. Kiwis were the favoured fruit while figs and blueberries were the least favourite.

Our favourite part was definetly trying the fruits and vegetables. Múinteoir Sinead was so impressed we tried lots of new foods too!!

 Our delicious vegetables

Our tasty fruits.

New Poem

We learnt a new poem today in English. We really liked it! It was about two birds having a conversation.

Bird Talk :

‘Think...’ said the robin,

‘Think...’ said the jay,

sitting in the garden

talking one day.

‘Think about people

the way they grow:

they don’t have feathers

at all, you know.

They don’t eat beetles,

they don’t grow wings,

they don’t like sitting

on wires and things.’

‘Think!’ said the robin.

‘Think!’ said the jay.

‘Aren’t people funny

to be that way?’

Dán Nua

Cinnín Óir.

Seo í Cinnín Oir,
Itheann sí go leor.
Is maith léi arán, Is maith léi subh
Is maith léi im ach ní maith léi ubh!

Seo í Cinnín Óir
Itheann sí go leor.
Is maith léi siúcra, Is maith léi pancóga,
Is maith léi léite ach ní maith léi calóga!

Active Schools Week - Day 3

Múinteoir Michelle organised a super obstacle course for the first class boys and girls today.

We loved the four different games on the obstacle course. We were very tired after all that running around!

Active Schools Week - Day 4

Today was the last day of our
Active Schools Week.

First and Second class played football with two super footballers from the Galway team. They showed us new football  skills, like the hand pass.

We also finished our laps! We even ran a few extra to ensure we reached our target of 488 laps. Over the course of the week we ran a total of 492 laps!

Clay Ladybirds

Inspired by our mini beasts theme, we used modelling clay to make ladybirds. First, we carefully rolled the clay to make the ladybird body.

We will paint and decorate them next week when they are dry.
