Positivity Day

Today was Positivity Day at school. 

We played lots of nice games and activities to celebrate the special day. 

First thing this morning, we received a card from Múinteoir Sinéad that had positive messages and sayings, such as "you are a kind friend" and "you are amazing". 

We were really happy with our positive messages. 

After lunch we used our "Compliment Cup". We read our compliments to our friends. Everyone had written really nice things about their friends!

We brought our teddies to the library and read them our favourite stories. 

We had so much fun today on positivity day. We cannot wait for Positivity Day next year! 

Energy Workshop

Leanne from Brigid's Garden came to our school today to do an energy workshop with us. 

She introduced her friend Guzzler who taught all of the boys and girls about how energy works and great ways to save energy in school and at home. 

The boys and girls learnt about energy chains. 

Art Club Week 3

This week the art club made beautiful notice boards. They were very proud of their completed work! 

The first class boys and girls are very creative! 

Road Safety

We were learning about road safety in school this week. They received a badge and a certificate to show they are ready to be seatbelt sheriffs. 

Tables and mental maths

We are getting very good at learning our tables! We love playing tables games everyday. 

Football lessons

We had our last Gaelic football lessons last week. We really enjoyed Denis coming to our school every week to teach us new football skills. 

Floating and Sinking

This week we were investigating objects that float and sink. 

Art Club Week 2

Lots of the boys and girls in first class are in Múinteoir Sinéad's after school art club. 

They have spent the last two weeks working on their hessian handcrafts. 

They are looking fantastic so far! 

Polar Regions

We are learning about the Arctic this week in class. For art, we made polar bear collages. 

Spring Lambs

The first class children met a very special visitor today. A new born lamb came to Merlin Woods Primary School today. 

Tom Crean

The boys and girls are enjoying learning all about Tom Crean and his adventures in the South Pole. 

Today, they worked as historians while investigating the contents of "Tom Crean's suitcase". 

They found lots of interesting things in the suitcase like old books, wooly jumpers and magnifying glasses. 

 

Toy Museum

We have been learning about toys from the past in school as part of our History. We learnt about the toys our parents and grandparents played with when they were young. 

Some of the children brought in a selection of their parents old toys for us to display in our Toy Museum. 

The children interviewed their parents and recorded their conversations about toys their parents played with when they were younger. 

The boys and girls had great fun comparing modern toys and old toys.
